JC Penney and a High School Musical 3 sweepstakes.

JC Penney is serious about the highschool teen and tween market. After trying the “Rock your look” online contest, where the winning videos had fewer than 20K views, JCP has turned to a proven winner: the Disney “High School Musical” franchise, with a proven winning tactic: a sweepstakes.
JCP already carries much of the HSM merchandise, but this upcoming promotion for “High School Musical 3” will be dubbed the “JC Pennney Best Seat in the House ‘High School Musical 3’ Sweepstakes.”
JCP is hoping to cash in when America’s retail business is in the dumps. JCP’s clothing will be featured on a microsite and this grand sweepstake winner will get a red-carpet screening of the new movie (along with instant popularity to the tune of 100 guests).

Even considering its a young generation that doesn’t like to be marketed to, JCP’s modest (read: large) spend and simple tactics might well move the sales needle.
