TV Homes dropping cable.

14 08 2008

According to MediaWeek, cable in homes slipped to an 18-year low in July. Wired cable fell from 61.1% of TV homes to 60.9%, the lowest since 1990, while other TV systems rose during that same period. Satellite TV is now in 28.2% of TV homes, up a full 27% from just a year ago. New ways to watch TV, through the many amenities that satellite offers, namely simple effects like recording, on demand, HD, etc., are selling themselves to TV watchers because of their experience-improving benefits.

Hi def TV’s are all the rage, and these viewers need hi def programs – and technology that doesn’t remind them of oldskool (cable was invented in 1948 as CATV) gets the nod. Bottom line: TV isn’t just entertainment, because now more than ever, it’s experience.
