No mo kinko. FedEx Office.

3 06 2008

According to the AP, FedEx will stop using the Kinko’s name on its copy and office service shops. This includes a $891 million charge for the quarter (that’s just eneded), relating to the value of the Kinko’s name and a write-down of the value of its acquisition of the brand.

Company spokesman Jess Bunn said, “The FedEx Office name better describes the wide range of services available at its retail centers and takes full advantage of the FedEx brand long recognized for excellent customer service, quality and reliability.”

The FedEx Office phase-in and Kinko’s phase-out will happen over the next several years. While “FedEx Office” may be a better brand/description for a rounder business offering, the door is cracked open for smaller competitors to fill the “copy center” void, as small businesses still seek these copy centers to fulfill small-run printing needs, sign-making and even light packaging and shipping needs.
